Hi All,
Did any of you hear the story on NPR about 2 months ago about bottled water?
We're all concerned about water usage (especially those of us in the desert). If you drink a bottle of water (any size), you are actually consuming almost twice as much water as you drink... because the plastic containing the water actually takes almost that much to make. So if you drink a one litre bottle of water, you are actually consuming almost 2 litres. In addition to that, consider all the energy used and air pollutants that go into producing the plastic and our huge mountain of non-biodegradable containers we are generating. The bottled water industry is the biggest rip off. Since hearing this program on NPR, I have "sworn off the bottle".
We (USA) have some of the highest standards in the world as far as tap water cleanliness. Bottled water has less testing done on it than your tap water. If in doubt, buy a GOOD quality filter and put it on your tap. Re-fill the same bottle over and over again for on the go. If you're still in doubt, pay for a test on your tap water. More than likely, it is A-OK.
There was also a news story this morning that stated that studies are finding more pharmaceutical products in water (although they say it's in safe quantities... urmph). Bottled water undergoes no testing for pharm products, but tap water does.
I'm a little more paranoid about my environment now than I was a year ago.. Logically, I know that more than likely, my problems with conceiving stem from my age. However, if autism is on the rise, what's causing it? Birth defects are on the rise in China... they attribute that to the mercury in fish and pollutants in the air. Some things we can't avoid, but changing our addiction to bottled water is certainly an easy enough thing to do.
